We at Hemophilia Society of Maharashtra, Pune Chapter, are dedicated to supporting individuals and families living with Hemophilia. We strive to provide comprehensive care, accessible education, affordable treatment options, psychosocial support, and economic rehabilitation services to enhance the quality of life for individuals living with hemophilia, ensuring a life free from disability and pain. Member happiness is our award. Bringing a smile on a child’s face and making the hemophilic lead a normal life is our ultimate goal.
Hemophilia is a rare genetic bleeding disorder that affects thousands of people worldwide. Hemophilia disrupts the blood's natural clotting mechanism, leading to excessive bleeding after injuries, even minor ones. This can also result in spontaneous bleeding into joints and muscles, causing pain and long-term disability.
Many people are unaware of Hemophilia, leading to misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and sometimes life-threatening situations. Early diagnosis and proper management are crucial for people with Hemophilia to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Together, we can raise awareness about Hemophilia, advocate for enhanced care, and empower individuals to lead joyful and normal lives.
We identify individuals with Hemophilia in Pune and across Maharashtra using print media, social workers, social media, primary health centers, and primary schools.
Often, parents and children have limited knowledge about Hemophilia. Our society educates them about the condition, its management, and the necessary precautions and care.
Hemophilia treatment is prohibitively expensive for many. It requires clotting factor injections, which are costly due to being blood products manufactured outside India. We provide these injections, known as Anti Hemophilic Factor (AHF), on a no-profit, no-loss basis, and often free of charge to those from lower economic backgrounds. Additionally, we offer psychosocial support, counseling on joint mobility, career guidance, physiotherapy, economic rehabilitation, and educational assistance.
